HUGE UFO REPORTEDLY SEEN BY 22 WITNESSES IN YUKON

The biggest UFO investigation of the year involved a series of sightings from December 11, 1996 in Canada's Yukon Territory. There, at least 22 known witnesses observed one or more enormous objects moving slowly over the frozen countryside. Most apparent was a row of large bright "windows," causing many witnesses to believe at first that they were seeing a jumbo jet crashing or trying to land. The UFO or UFOs were seen in three widely separated locations along the Klondike Highway during that night, according to lead investigator Martin Jasek of UFO*BC.

MYSTERY SIGHTING IN TAMPA -- WAS IT A ROCKET OR UFO?

Shortly after 5 am on September 7, many people in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area and southward along Florida's west coast saw something strange and spectacular in the sky. Some witness descriptions closely matched what U.S. Space Command soon identified as a reentering Russian booster rocket. But other witness reports seemed not to fit that explanation. Subsequent efforts by local MUFON investigators showed that one or more anomalous UFO events may have occurred at about the same time as the rocket reentry. [Reported in greater detail in CNI News of Dec 1.]

HUGE DISK-SHAPED UFO REPORTED OVER LONG ISLAND

According to Dave Hagemeister, head of NACOMM UFO Research, a huge disk-shaped UFO was sighted over the Long Island town of Levittown, New York, on the evening of September 1, 1999. Main witness Ed G. viewed the UFO at a distance of 2 to 3 blocks as it hovered over a local water tower. He said it was a finely tapered disk, over 100 feet in diameter but only six to eight feet thick in the center, with a straight line of 10 to 12 steadily glowing blue lights running along a diameter from the front to the back edge.

UFOLOGIST TIMOTHY GOOD DENOUNCES MJ-12 DOCUMENTS

Leading UK ufologist Timothy Good, whose 1987 book "Above Top Secret" was one of the first publications to lend credence to MJ-12, has now denounced the growing accumulation of MJ-12 documents as fraudulent. His comments came at the Leeds UFO Conference in mid-September.

BIGFOOT PARTISANS DEBATE -- IS CREATURE ET OR NOT?

For the 200 or more participants of a recent five-day International Sasquatch Symposium in Vancouver, discussions about Sasquatch -- aka Bigfoot -- proceed from the supposition that the creatures are undoubtedly real. But two major camps have emerged, the cryptozoologists and the paranormal theorists. The cryptozoology school considers Bigfoot to be a flesh-and-blood creature that just happens to have avoided capture. Those of the paranormal school regard Sasquatch as a possibly interdimensional being with strange powers and ties to extraterrestrials and UFOs.

RESEARCHERS CLAIM THOUSANDS OF NEW MJ-12 PAGES

Leading MJ-12 document analysts Robert and Ryan Wood say they have now acquired more than 2,100 pages of material and photos, including over 200 pages stamped TOP SECRET/MAJIC or an equivalent. One document is a 334-page manuscript on original watermarked paper with stamps in red ink. Though analysis is far from complete, the huge mass of material itself argues against any but the most sophisticated and high level hoax, or else for authenticity.

NEW EVIDENCE FOR POSSIBLE HUGE PLANET BEYOND PLUTO

The astronomy world buzzed with excitement on October 7 as newly announced evidence from two separate research teams appeared to confirm the existence of a huge planet-like body far beyond the orbit of Pluto. For many UFO enthusiasts, the findings seem to fit a theory put forth by Zecharia Sitchin regarding a huge, distant planet known to the ancient Sumerians as Nibiru.

SIGHTING OF TWO "SMALL BEINGS" INVESTIGATED IN QUEBEC

The Canadian French language newspaper Journal de Montreal reported that the Association Quebecoise d'Ufologie is investigating a case in Grand Mere, Quebec, involving "two small alien beings in white" observed picking specimens in a garden by a woman referred to as Mrs. H. Following the sighting on October 24, 1998, local ufologists found unusual ground traces and soil changes in the garden.

FEDS EYEBALL FIRMAGE'S LATEST E.T. PROPULSION CONFAB

Silicon Valley entrepreneur Joe Firmage hopes to raise at least $100 million to support the projects of his newly founded International Space Sciences Organization (ISSO). To that end, he hosted a private get-together of potential donors and scientists on Oct 12 in Santa Clara, California. According to stories in the local press, among those most interested in the meeting were NASA special agents who wanted to make sure no one associated with the space agency divulged proprietary information.

NICK POPE, U.K. UFO EXPERT, TELLS "THE TRUTH" IN FICTION

Nick Pope, who ran the "UFO Desk" at Britain's Ministry of Defence and then divulged his inside views in a book called "Open Skies, Closed Minds," has lately turned his literary skills to fiction. But his intention, he says, is to tell the truth as only fiction can. His new book, "Operation Thunder Child," purports to show how the British government might really handle an overt, hostile alien invasion.

UFO HITS BRAZIL'S AMAZON FOREST ON OCT 9

A brilliant aerial object was seen by hundreds of witnesses when it overflew the town of Sao Felix do Xinguh, Para state, northern Brazil in broad daylight on October 9. The UFO fell in the middle of the forest about 40 kilometers from town. Later investigation by scientists and news personnel found the impact site where hundreds of trees were torn out of the ground, completely destroyed and still burning or smoking 16 days after the original sighting. But there was no evidence or residue of any aircraft or meteorite, and no impact marks on the soil. The scene was reminiscent of, though less extensive than, the impact site at Tunguska, Siberia.

SWEDISH MILITARY SEARCH FOR FALLEN UFO IN LAKE

Witnesses said they saw a cigar-shaped object with small wings plunge into Lake Backsjon in Varmland, southwestern Sweden near the Norway border on July 27. Police and military personnel quickly responded. Soon, military divers were in the 13 meter-deep lake searching for wreckage. Because the military regarded the local witnesses as reliable, the underwater search went on for 10 days. Officially, nothing was found.

UK'S 1999 CROP CIRCLE SEASON HAD SOME SURPRISES

The year 1999 saw a large number of crop formations in southern England. Some were obvious hoaxes, and many seemed repetitious of previously seen formations. But some were extraordinary, none moreso than "The Basket," found the morning of August 6 at Roundway, Bishop Cannings, near Devizes in Wiltshire. The farmer who owned the field destroyed the formation within hours of its discovery, but good aerial photos and some ground measurements were taken by alert researchers.

NAVAJO POLICE CHASE UFO; BMDO CALLS IT ROCKET LAUNCH

Two officers of the Navajo Department of Law Enforcement, patrolling the Navajo Indian reservation in northwest New Mexico on the night of October 2, claimed they pursued a brightly glowing UFO. One officer chased the bright apparition for miles in his squad car, saying later he was sure the object was only a mile or two ahead of him. But it soon became evident that the UFO sighting was probably the result of a rocket launch in California, 700 miles away. The brilliant rocket plume was seen as far east as Iowa.

CHUPACABRAS REPORTEDLY ATTACKS AGAIN IN BRAZIL

According to the Oct 28 edition of the Brazilian journal Correiro Braziliense, recent killings of numerous farm animals in the region of Sorocaba, Sao Paulo state, look like the work of the dreaded chupacabras. Two farms together reported the loss of 8 goats and 3 sheep, seemingly killed by an unknown predator. Blood had been sucked out of the animals, according to the witnesses.

HUGE RASH OF SIGHTINGS IN U.S. MIDWEST NOV 16

Something extraordinary lit up the sky over much of the eastern and mid-west United States the night of Nov 16. Witnesses gave varying accounts. Meteorologist Tim Hedrick, interviewed live on Cincinnati news radio, said the thing he saw looked like "a semi-truck with 'green flames' shooting out of it." Another witness said it was a "solid object as big as the 'Titanic,' with a triangular formation that had a distinct structure." Some sightings lasted seconds, others went on for up to three minutes. Sightings were reported in eleven states and Washington, DC.

SPECTACULAR LIGHTSHOW OVER PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Some thought it was space junk or a fireball meteor, while many others described a strange aircraft. Whatever crossed the sky on Nov 4, all witnesses said it was spectacular; and it instantly became the talk of Papua New Guinea, an island nation north of Australia. Witnesses agreed that the thing was moving slowly. Some said it was in view for up to half an hour.

PROOF AT LAST: EXTRASOLAR PLANETS ARE REALLY THERE

More than 20 extrasolar planets have been discovered orbiting sun-like stars in nearby parts of our galaxy since the first such discovery in 1995. The existence of all those planets was inferred only by the observed behavior of the parent stars. But on Nov 7, astronomers observed a Jupiter-like gaseous planet transit across the face of its parent star, called HD 209458, proving beyond doubt that the predicted presence of that planet, earlier achieved by doppler spectroscopy, was accurate.

NEWSPAPER SAYS UK GOV'T TO RELEASE "UFO X-FILES"

A British Sunday newspaper called News Of The World stated on Nov 14 that UK Defence Minister Peter Kilfoyle is about to release 30 years' worth of secret files on government UFO investigations. About 300 cases will be included, along with data on hitherto secret military plans for responding to alien invasion, the paper said.

PRESS IN ROMANIA SAYS UFO SIGHTING WAS VIDEOTAPED

At about 5 am on Oct 29, according to press reports from Romania, a young man in the town of Pitesti, about 60 miles northwest of the capital city of Bucharest, saw a UFO out his kitchen window. He managed to videotape the object, which reportedly looked "like a giant satellite dish." The witness said it "was radiating a very strong, strange light, and stayed still for more than an hour." The Romanian defense agency said they had no explanation and requested a copy of the video.

HUGE TRIANGLE CRAFT REPORTED BY TEXAS AIRLINE CREWS

Peter Davenport of the National UFO Reporting Center reported that the crews of two commercial airliners saw an anomalous triangular aircraft in their vicinity at 37,000 feet on October 26. Davenport interviewed the two pilots, both Air Force veterans, who said they observed a large triangular shaped craft with extremely bright lights execute a turn to the east, move ahead of the airliners and then fade from sight.

SCIENTISTS REPORT MAJOR UFO SIGHTING IN AZERBAIJAN

A news story in the Azerbaijani newspaper Zerkalo on Oct 28 stated that a number of UFO sightings have been reported in recent weeks in the Central Asian nation of Azerbaijan. The latest occurred on October 15 during a conference of astrophysicists in the capital city of Baku, on the Caspian Sea. A large disc-shaped flying object was visible overhead from some seven minutes, witnessed by scientists and captured on videotape. In response to other recent UFO incidents in the region, a permanent commission on anomalous phenomena under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was established at the beginning of October, Zerkalo said.

MISSOURI IS FIRST TO GEAR UP FOR UFO BALLOT DRIVE

A ballot initiative offering voters a chance to declare their interest in government disclosure of UFO information is scheduled to begin soon with a formal signature gathering process in the state of Missouri. The ballot initiative, if passed, would call on Congress to convene open hearings on UFOs and grant immunity to witnesses. Organizers must collect nearly 75,000 signatures to put this initiative on the ballot for the general election of November 2000.

BIGFOOT SIGHTING REPORTED IN SOUTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA

Pennsylvania researcher Stan Gordon is investigating a recent sighting of Bigfoot near the small town of Pleasant Unity in Pennsylvania's Westmoreland County. The witnesses, a family of three, were driving on a rural road at about 5:30 pm in late October when they observed ahead of them a "hair covered, manlike creature, with long arms extending below the knees," crossing the road. The witnesses said the creature was stooped over, arms swinging back and forth very quickly. It crossed the road in three giant strides and entered a wooded area, never looking at the oncoming car. Gordon has investigated numerous other Bigfoot sightings in Pennsylvania as well. SIX MORE PLANETS FOUND OUTSIDE SOLAR SYSTEM

According to a Nov 29 press release from the University of California at Santa Cruz, astronomers Geoffrey Marcy, Paul Butler, Kevin Apps and Steven Vogt have found six new planets orbiting nearby stars, bringing the total number of planets detected outside the solar system to 28.

GLOWING DAYLIGHT UFO REPORTED OVER SHANGHAI, CHINA

Normally reserved, state-controlled Chinese newspapers carried reports of a daylight UFO seen over Shanghai on Dec 2. Some witnesses said the object seemed to hover and was visible for up to 90 minutes. One described the UFO as a "cylindrical object with a flaming orange tail". Another said it "was oblong, yellow, with a shiny pointed top and a white tail." Similar sightings were reported near Beijing a few days later. The object was moving too slowly to be a meteor and too fast to be a comet; nor did it appear to be any know aircraft.

BRITISH UFOLOGISTS EXPECT LITTLE FROM NEW "X-FILES"

Following a British press announcement on Nov 14 that Defence Minister Peter Kilfoyle would soon release 30 years' worth of secret UFO files, officials at the Ministry of Defence claimed no knowledge of any such plan. British ufologists told CNI News they expect little in the way of revelations. But MoD employee and UFO author Nick Pope offered the hope that "something may happen with the [new British] Freedom of Information Act."
